Position Description
Background:
The mission of the Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) is to protect, improve, and sustain the health and well-being of all people in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. The Division of Epidemiology supports this mission by collecting, managing, and analyzing data on illness, wellness and behaviors in Metro Nashville and Davidson County.
The Position:
The epidemiologist in this role is assigned to the Epidemiology Division, and works closely with the Communicable Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CDEP) Bureau, Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination and Hep C programs, and initiatives promoting youth and adolescent health in Davidson County. The incumbentprovides ongoing surveillance, data workflow management and analytics, and evaluation support for innovative interdepartmental and cross-sector responses to adolescent health and infectious disease prevention and control as needed.
Typical Duties
+ Works with leadership and stakeholders at state and local levels to design, maintain, evaluate, and improve surveillance systems for each initiative/programs
+ Leads the process of requesting data from the Tennessee Department of Health and other agency sources.
+ Utilizes epidemiologic frameworks to analyze and communicate surveillance and program evaluation data.
+ Prepares and presents reports to stakeholders to inform of disease trends, support community outreach, policy, and strategic decision making, and identify at-risk individuals and populations.
+ Participates in developing and reviewing risk communication messages about emerging infections and adolescent health. Answers general informational questions from the public and medical community.
+ Collaborates with stakeholders to identify information technologies and communication tools necessary to support epidemiologic investigations and surveillance including data workflow management, programming, survey and dashboard development tools.
+ Regularly reviews literature to maintain knowledge of relevant disease processes.
+ Educates others about current epidemiologic and public health literature and trends in communicable diseases and adolescent health surveillance, crisis response, and interventions.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Master's degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics and 1 year of experience in conducting epidemiological studies, surveillance, or community assessment and planning. Or
+ Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health, biomedical, environmental, or social science and 2 years of experience conducting epidemiological studies, surveillance, or community assessment and planning.
Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
