Job description

Broadcom’s Avago Technologies is seeking an experienced Epitaxy Engineer to develop and maintain MOCVD growth and characterization methods for III-V materials and devices.  Located in Breinigsville, PA, our high volume, 24/7 manufacturing facility produces products to enable fiber optic communication expansion.  Successful candidate should have experience with Indium Phosphide based growth processes, characterization, and device physics, and will join an exceptional team with strong history of success.  This position reports to the Epitaxial Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties

Process ownership – develop, maintain, optimize and document existing MOCVD processes for Indium Phosphide material growths

Familiarities for characterization in particular PL mapping, XRD, FTIR, and profilometer tools

Provide scientific expertise in all MOCVD materials growth techniques and characterization measurements, develop new methods processes as needed

Improve growth processes and analysis through automation via scripting

Assist with device correlation to MOCVD growth material defects to drive product improvement

Plan projects including design of experiments, lead/take ownership of projects to develop/qualify new processes and tools, complete projects on time and within budget

Generate internal technical reports, document existing and new measurement procedures

Communicate and collaborate with team, escalate issues as necessary

Qualifications and Skills

PhD and +7 years or MS with +10 years of related experience in following fields of study:

Physics (Experimental, solid state)

Materials Science

Electrical Engineering

Strong applied, hands-on approach to semiconductor growth tools and processes, Indium Phosphide MOCVD experience preferred

Solid knowledge of materials and characterization techniques (photoluminescence, HRXRD, AFM, SEM, SIMS, FTIR)

Knowledge of semiconductor materials and optical devices

Aixtron reactor experience is a plus.

Exceptional communication skills

Works well in team environment

Critical thinking and structured problem solving techniques

Familiarity with SQL, JMP, Python is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $127,000 - $203,000.

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
