THE ROLE
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Oversees all maintenance operations, ensures maintenance personnel adhere to established policies for inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment in addition to ensuring all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement (as applicable) are followed. Authorizes and makes arrangements for procurement of parts, supplies, tools and machinery. Contracts for services not performed in house. Consults with Vice President of Fleet and operations management and makes recommendations on vehicle and equipment replacement needs. Participates in budget making process pertaining to maintenance operations. Administers periodic inspection and audit of company vehicles, equipment and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, effective and compliant maintenance operations. Identifies potential safety hazards and takes appropriate action to ensure personnel safety. Investigates and evaluates cause, extent and financial impacts of damage to equipment due to failures and vehicles involved in accidents.QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
Eight years related industry experience, including four years in a supervisory role. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations that govern maintenance operations related to job site safety protocols and potential job hazards. Experience in the administration of comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs. Experience and knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits. Experience and knowledge of inventory control processes. Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills preferred. Must be able to perform routine calculations and be able to write reports and correspondence. Experience and knowledge of working in a refuse/recycling maintenance facility or related environment with heavy vehicles, landfill equipment and processing equipment (such as: balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and controls) preferred. Experience in managing union personnel preferred. Principles of personnel training and evaluation. Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting. Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area including vehicle and heavy equipment service/repair (including diesel heavy equipment mechanics) and job safety, potential job hazards and state/local regulations. Current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications and using data to inform and set priorities and identify challenges/opportunities. High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Valid Driver's License required. Valid Class "B" Driver's License with no air brake or automatic transmission restrictions required within six months of hire.Skill and/or Ability to:
