May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location South Flores Maintenance Yard, 7930 South Flores, San Antonio, TX Work Hours 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate seasonal adjustments, evening coverage, weekends, and holiday shiftwork based on department needs. Essential Job Functions + Operates a 10 cy or less dump trucks to and from work locations, construction sites, etc. + Performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment. + Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor work related to various maintenance and construction activities. + May prepare a daily log of activities. + Cleans and removes debris from streets, parks, drainage, ditches, City parks, and other areas, frequently lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds. + Removes brush and trash from drainage inlets. + Transports tools and equipment to and from work sites. + May assist in the placement of barricades, signs, flashers, and safety cones. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance: + One (1) year of experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment or completion of an SA: Ready to Work CDL training program. + Must obtain a Valid Texas Commercial Class "B" Driver's License plus all required endorsements within six (6) months of employment. Preferred Qualifications + In possession of Texas Commercial Class "B" driver's license. + High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency. + Ability to retrieve debris from waterways to include creeks, ponds and lakes within the Parks and Recreation Department. + Ability to read and write in English + Knowledge of the operation of small boats and outboard motors + Ability to perform a variety of tasks to assist employees with the trades division. + One (1) year experience operating equipment such a skid loaders, backhoes, weed eaters, chainsaws, edgers and other small equipment. + Familiar with a work order tracking system such as SAP/CRM computer software. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. + Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of operating characteristics and limitations of the equipment being operated. + Knowledge of basic construction methods and practices. + Knowledge of safety procedures related to the equipment being operated. + Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and practices. + Ability to learn proper equipment operating procedures, methods, and practices. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. + Ability to understand and follow instructions. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations. + Working conditions are primarily outside in a construction site environment with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, traffic construction dust, damp/wet surfaces, overhead power lines, high noise, oily surfaces, liquid asphalt, and lime.
