Additionally, when duties and responsibilities of this job change, this job description will be reviewed and updated, subject to changes and business necessity. **Custom Job Purpose:** This position exists to perform skilled work in the operation of all types of heavy equipment used in site construction and maintenance. **Essential Functions of this Job** Operates a dump truck, front end loader, backhoe, crane, box blade and similar equipment in digging ditches, cutting slopes, and loading rock or sand on trucks. Operates bulldozers and other grading equipment as required. Performs light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of heavy equipment operated. Uses and insures proper maintenance and storage of tools and equipment. Keeps daily records and logs of work performed. Performs finishing and grading operations. Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner, including the ability to operate and communicate on a two-way radio. Must be able to performphysical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document. **Non-Essential Functions of this Job** Performs other duties as assigned. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** Three (3) years experience in operating a variety of heavy equipment in construction and maintenance work is preferred. Considerable knowledge of the care and safe operation of a wide variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment. Skill in the operation of a wide variety of heavy equipment, including the ability to operate a standard shift dump truck. Ability to make minor repairs on heavy equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to keep daily records and logs. Bilingual/biliterate preferred. **Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements** Graduation from high school, completion of GED, or trade school. Must have a valid Class A CDL driver's license or additional endorsements appropriate to the vehicles assigned to the trade and be qualified to drive a School Board vehicle. **Work Context:** Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public. Requires the use of alternative communication systems such as electronic mail, telephones, two way radios and computers. **Physical Environment:** Requires driving and operating equipment for the majority of the day, and the ability to infrequently lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Objects over 50 pounds would require assistance as needed. Requires working both indoors and outdoors.
