Edelman Smithfield is the transactions and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) advisory boutique within Edelman, that works alongside capital markets participants to provide counsel and communications support in strategic situations, including M&As, divestments, IPOs, SPACs, take privates and activist defense. Our ESG capabilities are grounded in technical expertise that goes beyond communications support, making us increasingly consultants-of-choice for clients who want both upstream technical work and downstream communications and storytelling expertise. We are not looking for an intern with decades of experience and industry qualifications. Instead, we seek a colleague who loves learning, always goes back to first principles, and shares our passion for connecting the dots between shareholder value and sustainability. What you can expect:Learn to connect the dots between ESG and shareholder value creation, making a business case for our client’s sustainability strategies.Hone our foundational skills as communicators – including simplifying complex and often divisive topics for diverse audiences.Be directly involved in engaging clients, stepping up to the plate as part of client servicing or pitch teams.Work closely with colleagues working on financial services accounts, as well as investor relations and strategic situation advisory.Have a dedicated coach that can help you get the most out of your internship experience.Meet passionate communicators across the Edelman network who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise.Experience our Edelman and Edelman Smithfield culture – that’s what makes our strategy tangible.ResponsibilitiesHelp clients to explain their sustainability strategies to a range of internal and external audiences.Support sustainability data collection and reporting.Play a hands-on role in support of project and account management.Research crucial regulatory and competitive developments that could impact our clients’ sustainability strategies.Ideal Candidate Will Have the Following Skills and CapabilitiesYou care deeply about climate change and social issues, but also recognize the need for a pragmatic and practical approach to fixing the world’s problems.You thrive in uncertainty, and in asking the right questions to crack uncertain asks.You love to learn and master new concepts.
