Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on Request for Proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements. Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.
Primary Responsibilities
Use drawing and specification information in customer Requests for Quotes (RFQs), and determines labor, material, and process hour and cost estimates for detailed parts, assemblies, and toolingPrepare estimates using company approved Excel workbooks and data sheetsCoordinate with procurement for Requests for Quotations from outside suppliers for parts, materials, hardware, standards, and surface processesMaintain historical databases for Division core competencies and typical productsPrepare data for reports, presentations, status requests, and continuous improvement initiativesKnowledge & Skills
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, P&L analysis, BQMS, and other methods used in product manufacturingKnowledge of customer RFQ document types and language; Ability to interpret RFQ requirements from customer drawings and specificationsKnowledge of cost estimating methods, from detailed part bids through parametric modeling used in large-scale quotationsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAttention to detail, accurate, and organizedBlueprint reading and interpretation skillsAppropriate math skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CATIA or EnoviaAble to establish, communicate, and manage multiple projects with competing deadlinesEducation & Experience
