Job Summary  

The Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of projects to be bid. He or she prepares bids, selects vendors/subcontractors, and estimates self-perform crew compositions and production rates. He or she performs quantity take-offs using a complete and detailed understanding of the project scope. 

Essential Functions 

Quantify project components assigned by the lead estimator  Perform concrete paving takeoffs and pricing for PCCP related projects Evaluate and prepare self-perform and subcontract cost estimates of assigned discipline items  Visit the project to understand site conditions/restrictions  Work with other estimating team members to build the estimate, then price assigned items in Hard Dollar  Review plans and specifications  Provide accurate take-offs  Gain an understanding of schedule requirements and quantity breakdowns for each assigned discipline as it pertains to the P6 schedule, and communicate this information to the Scheduler  Analyze and enter quotes into Hard Dollar  Handle solicitation of subcontractors and vendors for their discipline of work  Assist with meeting DBE participating goals through vendor and subcontractor solicitations Establish relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty services

Required Skills & Experience  

1-5 years of experience as an Estimator working on heavy/highway construction projects (Structures, Bridges, Underground, Earthwork, and Concrete Paving)  Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred  Field operations experience is strongly preferred  Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented  Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word  Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Additional working knowledge preferred but not required: Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Agtek and HCSS (Heavy Bid)  Flexibility with relocation for assigned projects
