Position Overview

We are currently hiring estimators to join our Underground division, working in our Omaha Nebraska headquarters.  As an Estimator, you will prepare, review and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance for Underground projects, including but not limited to Mining, Transportation, Water, Infrastructure or Utilities, and develop conceptual estimates and performs cost analysis on a variety of different contract models.

District Overview

Our Underground Division has been constructing underground facilities for over 70 years and is recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry. We have completed more than 100 underground-related projects totaling more than several billion dollars. Our work includes projects related to transportation, water/wastewater, environmental facilities, power, mining, and telecommunications. We incorporate state-of the art technology with proven construction methods to ensure excellence and ongoing success.

Please keep in mind that we are an Underground Construction business, so chances are that a majority of your day will be spent working Underground if you are on a project site. Services include TBM Rock, TBM Soft Ground, Sequential Excavation, Drill and Blast, Shaft Excavation, Concrete, Tunnel Rehab, and Numerous Trenchless Methods.

This role is located at our District Home Office in Omaha, Nebraska.

Responsibilities Develop complete detailed estimates for large, complex jobs in Underground construction   Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate. Review of project specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate Perform quality take-offs when applicable, if not available possess the ability to complete the picture in developing a full detailed estimate Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.   Collaborate with other internal Estimators, Project Managers, and Executive Team when required Present and reconcile estimates with design team and clients Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.   Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures. Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.  Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.   Consult with internal Kiewit stakeholders on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.  Must be able to complete contract deadlines. This could require extended hours including nights/weekends to ensure the deadline is met.  Attend project meetings and site visits when required Qualifications BS and/or Masters degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or construction-related technology 2+ years' of related construction estimating experience preferred  Will consider candidates with no degree, with a minimum of 7 years working experience in any underground construction activity listed below. TBM, HDD / Trenchless, Drill and Blast or related Underground/tunneling experience  Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex projects is a plus Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills  Demonstrated proficiency in Estimating software & Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint) Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel up to 10% Ability to go underground at a project site
