Contract Type Classified Salary If other, please specify Recruitment Type Open Position Details General Statement University Facilities Management is comprised of: Facilities Services, Planning, Design & Construction (PDC), Engineering & Utilities, Safety & Risk Management, and Central Operations. Additionally, University Facilities Management has dedicated technical support in the areas of Human Resources, Budget & Accounting, and Information Technology. Facilities Services is charged with the maintenance and operations of all university buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. Campus Maintenance is imbedded in the Facilities Services department and is responsible for maintenance, repair, renovation, and replacement of buildings, grounds, equipment, and utilities for all university departments. Duties and Responsibilities Under general supervision of the Campus Maintenance Manager, the Estimator/Project Coordinator, in conjunction with Facility Managers, is responsible for estimating all multi-trade maintenance and renovation projects, and assisting the Engineering & Utilities and Planning, Design, and Construction departments in developing project budgets. The position generates accurate and detailed estimates for customer and department related project work requests, assists Facility Managers in coordinating work of MSU employees and subcontractors related to project work requests, assists Facility Managers in scheduled maintenance performed by contractors, and manages budget and expectations for those same projects.
Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, plans, specifications, and related documents. Identify budget conflicts, inconsistencies, and risk by studying proposals, plans, specifications, and related documents. Prepare estimates by reviewing scopes of work, plans, specifications, and customer requests. Submit prepared estimates to customers and is available for follow up questions or comments. Coordinate and develop design and construction document packages used for construction/renovation projects. Use CMMS (AiM Assetworks) to manage work, budgets, and create historical data to inform future projects and estimating. Maintain and improve estimating processes and databases. Coordinate special construction material procurement. Process and manage all required subcontracts. Manage work including estimating and processing Change Orders. Manage the project budget. Review completed projects to identify improvements to the overall process and estimating database. Assist in maintaining and improving workflow emanating from the Facilities Services Work Control operation. Incumbent will attend and participate in required training for the use of personal protective equipment and comply with requirements for use of employer provided equipment. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Architecture, Civil Engineering or related field plus relevant progressively responsible experience in the construction field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply construction, architecture and engineering theories and practices. This includes knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical, utility and civil engineering, and surveying; utility/infrastructure construction; and contract administration and management. Knowledge of and ability to apply university standards and local, state & Federal building codes. Demonstrated knowledge and ability using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to develop projects/estimates, provide project reports and updates. Demonstrated experience and ability to develop estimates by reviewing building/site plans, specifications, drawings, and verbal direction from campus customers. Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Experience in Assetworks AIM (CMMS System) Familiarity with public sector/institutional budgeting and accounting requirements, appropriations, and funding sources. Knowledge and skill in trades, subcontractors, or project scheduling. Experience with project management software. The Successful Candidate Will Ability to gather, interpret and analyze often complex and conflicting data from a variety of sources, draw conclusions, and make sound recommendations. Ability to interpret, explain and communicate detailed information with all levels of personnel internal and external to the organization. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while establishing effective working relations as a team member. Consistently demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated skill in managing multiple on-going projects, maintaining good documentation and being organized. Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise adaptability to changing priorities. Position Special Requirements/Additional Information Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points).
