European External Funding COE Director
Job Description SummaryThe leader of the European External Funding Centre of Excellence (CoE), this role is responsible for securing external funding to support GE HealthCare’s R&D initiatives particularly from EU and local European agencies. The Director must keep up to date with the latest funding initiatives and pair those opportunities that support the adoption and acceleration of GE HealthCare’s innovation strategy. The role ensures the self-sustainability and growth of the CoE by providing resources to accelerate product development, drive strategic innovation projects, and foster academic collaborations that enhance personalized patient care and outcomes. This role involves identifying prospective sources of external funding, securing funds, and liaising with external & internal stakeholders to ensure successful fundraising efforts. Additionally, the Director ensures that all funding activities comply with applicable laws and regulations, effectively mitigating risks while promoting the company’s expansion and growth

Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities

Lead the European External Funding Centre of Excellence: Oversee and guide the strategic direction of the CoE, ensuring its self-sustainability and strategic alignment with global innovation direction.

Securing and Identifying of Funding/ Co-funding: Identify, pursue, and secure external funding opportunities from EU and local European agencies to support GE HealthCare’s R&D initiatives, strategic innovation projects, and academic collaborations.

Actively support the scouting activities for new prospects of such grants and funding opportunities.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders: Externally with public and private entities to drive creation of funding and grants opportunity/ Internally working cross functionally with the Science and Technology Organization to identify where the opportunities intersect with strategy.

Proposal preparation management: Own, lead, draft, and file grant/funding applications.

Monitoring and reporting: Monitor the progress of funded projects, ensuring that they meet their objectives and provide regular reports on funding activities, financial performance, and compliance.

Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that all funding activities adhere to applicable laws and regulations, mitigating risks associated with external funding and project implementation.

Continuous Improvement, Training, and coaching: using expertise, the role helps process development and co-working teams across European sites develop their knowledge regarding External Funding.

Representation: the role represents GE HealthCare’s strategic European Research & Development interests at various (networking) events.

Communication: the role operates as a key-contact internally/externally and towards the public authorities and contributes to the shaping of new communication tools and their content.

People Management: manage day to day operations of the current team

Required Qualifications

Several years prior professional experience successfully managing external funding and/or R&D grants

Familiarity with EU financing vehicles to private institutions

Bachelor’s degree in law or business from an accredited university

Ability and willingness to travel up to 5-10% across Europe

People Management experience

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English

Desired Characteristics

Strong advantage if relevant experience was within Medical Science or Medical Devices industry

Customer focused, have great interpersonal skills allowing to adapt in a technical environment interacting with executives.

Have ability to work independently and to define and meet specific objectives with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Strong understanding of grant writing, financial analysis, project management, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience working in a global matrixed environment, as working with international stakeholders and diverse cultures as well as an ability to work collaboratively across different departments.

Team Worker with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, positive attitude and target oriented.

Demonstrated ability to drive to clear, concise outcomes with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to create new work processes across multiple business/organizational entities.

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.

Rigorous and methodical with strong capacity for analysis and synthesis.

Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills with proven ability to work through difficult situations.
