Job Summary/Description:  

The dominant #1 station in the 70th largest market in the country is looking for a journalist to anchor evening newscasts.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

- Gather and provide news and information in the most accurate, appealing, timely and creative way.
- Demonstrate sound news judgment and the ability to tell stories in a clear, informative manner.
- Enterprise hard-news stories under tight deadlines, develop and maintain sources and contacts
- Develop, investigate, write, report, and edit stories for newscasts.
- Attend/host/speak at community service, schools and community events; meet and greet viewers.
- Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.
- Attendance at editorial meetings; participation in story selection process and contribution of story ideas.
- Write, edit, and post website stories prior to airing of the television version, update web stories regularly.
- Use social media outlets to interact with viewers and to post content and promotional material on a daily basis.
- Plan and perform on-set interviews, reporting hard news, breaking news, severe weather and live demonstrations.
- Must be a visual storyteller and have the ability to come up with creative, active live shots and stand-ups and ways to explain a story.
- Lead and mentor reporters, producers, and videographers.
- Enterprise and produce packages.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Various shift work may be required; work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- 3 or more years of reporting and/or anchoring is preferred.
- Experience and intermediate knowledge of newsroom software such as ENPS.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Clear, accurate news writing and research skills.
- Must possess excellent interview and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Strong initiative and attention to detail required.
- Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills required.
- Compelling story-teller, able to tell complicated stories "live", and ad-lib when necessary.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will work well with co-workers, supervisors, and viewers.
- Provide leadership and training for less experienced news staff.
- Maintain strong journalistic ethics and maintain professional and ethical conduct.
- Keeping up with national and local news is required.
- Knowledge of web posting software, producing content for the web and other platforms.
- Excellent news judgment.
- Ability to enterprise local hard news stories, update stories several times a day, conduct online research using search engines.
- Intermediate level knowledge of social media, ability to regularly use social media to engage viewers.
