EVP - Industry Practices Leader, Construction

We are seeking an experienced Industry Practice Leader who will take on the responsibility of building and leading Chubb’s Small Business and Lower Middle Market (LMM) Construction practice with the potential for the position, depending on candidate’s industry experience, to lead the Construction Industry Practice across all North American commercial divisions.  In this role, you will collaborate closely with colleagues from other divisions, adjacent industry practice experts, and line of business managers to develop and implement effective strategies for the growth and success of the business.

Major Responsibilities:

Establish and build a multiline, end-to-end construction solution for Small Business and Lower Middle Market, including product development, appetite, underwriting, pricing, servicing, and marketing, with a focus on the independent agency network.  Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and execute business plans for the Small and LMM construction industry practice, ensuring alignment with strategic and financial objectives. Continuously evaluate strategy and make necessary adjustments to adapt to changing market conditions. Accountability and Business Plan Achievement: Drive, execute, and achieve the business plan for the Small and LMM construction industry practice in partnership with line of business managers. This includes overseeing local team underwriting approach, profitability, retention, and growth. Establish Goals and Forecasts: Set short- and long-term strategic goals, operational priorities, and revenue growth forecasts for the N.A. construction industry practice focusing on top line growth as well as improving services and capabilities. Market Presence and Awareness: Actively engage in the marketplace through client meetings, agency visits, presentations, trade shows, alliances, digital/social media, and other activities to raise awareness of our capabilities in the construction industry practice.  Attend and coordinate participation in construction industry events such as IRMI Construction Conference and AGC Conference on Surety Bonding and Construction Risk Management. Distribution Strategies: Develop and execute Construction-focused distribution strategies across traditional agent/broker, digital, and emerging channels, including marketing/communications, incentives/compensation, and agent experience. Compliance and Underwriting Strategies: Review and update industry strategies and policy forms to ensure compliance with current corporate underwriting strategies. Progress Tracking and Cost Control: Establish and track progress against development plans, identifying and addressing any issues, managing costs, and maintaining underwriting integrity. Positioning and Pricing Strategies: Develop positioning and pricing strategies for the Small Business and LMM construction to achieve long-term growth and profitability, managing P&L’s to target combined ratio. Account Decisions: Make appropriate decisions on accounts to drive growth and secure long-term profitability for the industry practice. Collaboration and Implementation: Work closely with field underwriting, business development, industry practice and line of business partners, general counsel, actuarial, data/analytics, IT, and other senior leaders to develop and implement strategies. Travel: This position requires travel within North America, approximately 25% of the time. Location: flexible 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

15+ years of commercial underwriting experienceStrong knowledge of the construction industryExperience with rules-based flow/low-touch underwriting preferredExcellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skillsStrong organizational and analytical skillsDemonstrated strategic and creative thinking abilitiesAbility to collaborate effectively with internal and external business partners at all levelsDemonstrated project leadership skills

The pay range for the role is $185,000 to $300,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
