Job Summary

The Executive Director of Pharmacy (EDOP) has direct oversight of and responsibility for the acute pharmacy services of Vandalia Health South according to hospital policies, standards of practice, and State and Federal laws. The EDOP provides leadership and planning for the pharmacy service line in coordination with the Vice President of Pharmacy Services and oversees the integration of pharmacy practice within the hospitals by coordinating resources to provide quality services to patients and other health care professionals. The EDOP plans, organizes, and directs the pharmacy departments efforts to monitor the quality of staff performance and the effectiveness of pharmacy programs. Additionally, the EDOP is responsible for the expense and revenue performance of the pharmacies in their service line. The position will directly report to the operational Vice President for Vandalia Health South

 

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement the strategic plan for pharmacy services.

• Oversee pharmaceutical acquisition processes to include contracting, procurement, storage, and inventory controls.

• Provide oversight of the medication use system.

• Manage system finances and participates in pharmacy department budget preparations.

• Leads standardization, systemization, and performance improvement initiatives across their service line.

• In collaboration with the pharmacy leadership team and others, develops and sets operational, clinical, and financial targets for their departments.

• Ensures continued compliance with all national, state, and local regulations related to medications and their management.

• Identify and analyze national pharmacy trends in relation to services, automation, and opportunities.

• Keep abreast of literature and current developments in the pharmacy profession.

• Participates on and leads appropriate teams and committees.

• Development of strategies to recruit, retain, and develop pharmacy employees.

• Requires the ability to work efficiently under broad guidelines and must frequently exercise his/her own judgement in decision making.

• Prepare and submit administrative reports.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement
