RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides administrative support and cultural advice to the Director of the Baghdad Support Center Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Maintains key contacts List, telephone directory – include relationship of the individuals within the Host government as well as appropriate notations as to the relationship to Senior Host Government Officials. Provide recommendation to DOS relative to Government of Iraq access request correspondence; assist in the coordination of all meetings to ensure availability of attendees. Participate as the Department Linguist and transcriber; monitors all BDSC Management activities, reports and projects and provide input as necessary on the relevance to current activities. Coordinate with staff, as appropriate, on notes due dates and necessary coordination with multiple State Department sections, other USG Agencies, contractors, and other BDSC entities. Assist with ensuring timely submission of reports; review all daily cable and email traffic to identify and translate as appropriate; identify those messages that may require Management’s attention; assist the Director in preparing correspondence and reports in Arabic and English. Advise BDSC’s Management on major commitments and operational changes but does not unilaterally make such decisions; act as a point of contact for the BDSC’s Director who gives work guidance to the other Locally Employed Staff when tasked with assignments from various sections including the Front Office in terms of coordination. Support overall coordinator and point of contact for any administrative task that involves multiple BDSC agencies, sections, and offices. Provide cross-cultural advice and provide guidance regarding conflicts between Locally Employed Staff and BDSC personnel and contractors. Administer and coordinate programs and events that have a direct impact on the post morale and initiate improvement to ensure the entire community’s overall work performance, productivity, retention, community spirit, and individual well-being are being maintained in the most challenging and austere environment of Iraq; represent individual and/or collective community concerns to post management as appropriate. Helps to formulate solutions; provide pre and post arrival information and resources to ensure successful acclimation to BDSC. Organize post welcome activities; coordinate the development and implementation of relevant programs to enhance post morale in the following three categories: U. S. traditions, Iraqi culture, and social, educational and recreational activities. Encourage volunteerism through community outreach; facilitate morale-enhancing seminars and workshops organized by other groups or individuals at the post.
