A Glimpse of the Job
The Executive Director of Communications for Strategy and Business Services manages the development and implementation of marketing and communications programs directed to internal and external constituencies. Serves as the focal point for developing and coordinating news stories promoting Texas A&M University.
Essential Duties/Tasks:
Strategic Planning and Counsel
+ Creates, develops, and implements a strategic marketing and communications plan for Strategy and Business Services.
+ Provides strategic counsel regarding communications needs within the Strategy and Business Services unit and in support of key initiatives.
+ Ensures alignment of Strategy and Business Services communications with the university’s brand platform.
+ Executive communications counsel and support for Senior Vice President for Strategy and Business Services.
Content Creation and Production
+ Independently creates, edits, designs, and produces various communication materials such as websites, brochures, invitations, advertisements, flyers, newsletters, speeches, reports and presentations.
+ Leads news release drafting and ensures their effective distribution strategy.
+ Designs graphic communications pieces within brand guidelines, initiating and executing creative ideas.
+ Develops and refines templates for digital communications such as social media, emails, and websites, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
+ Manages and organizes all internal communications for the unit.
+ Implements creative strategies to support Strategy and Business Services initiatives and priorities.
+ Manages and coordinates long-range planning activities and special events.
Collaboration and Coordination
+ Leads, coordinates, and collaborates with communications colleagues in supporting units, including Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness, as well as Finance and Business Services.
+ Ensures alignment of content and communications approaches across units within Strategy and Business Services.
+ Collaborates as necessary with central Marketing and Communications on major initiatives to ensure alignment and amplification of organizational priorities.
Division Support and Leadership
+ Respond to changing demands of the division as directed by Strategy and Business Services SVP.
+ Support and lead university level initiatives as directed by the SVP.
+ Participate in leadership meetings and planning teams.

Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Ten years of experience in journalism, marketing, or public relations (or comparable areas) with an emphasis on writing and pitching stories.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Three years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Journalism industry knowledge, including news writing and editing skills.
+ Excellent communication and leadership skills.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements and Factors
+ Work outside of standard work hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
+ This position is security sensitive.
+ This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
+ All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
