EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CATEGORY MANAGEMENT - MUSCOLOSKELETAL | REMOTE

The Executive Director Category Management - Musculoskeletal is responsible for leading the complete strategy and execution of the implant and orthopedic contract and solution portfolio across the healthcare system and GPO offering for Advantus Health Partners. With a focus on innovation, this position drives the development of contracts, product offerings, supplier relationships, and operational efficiency, while ensuring exceptional outcomes for both clinical teams and patients. Overseeing a total spend of approximately $350M annually, the Executive Director will drive to optimal decisions by working closely with internal and external stakeholders to shape the future of musculoskeletal care for Advantus Health Partners. The role requires deep expertise in all aspects of the healthcare space for musculoskeletal suppliers and products including but not limited to, orthopedic implants and biologics, as well as a keen understanding of healthcare operations and reimbursement models in both acute and ambulatory settings. This position is central to the ministry’s success, from driving cost leadership to optimizing clinical performance, making it an unparalleled leadership role within the healthcare industry and Advantus Health Partners.

Essential Job Functions

Strategic Leadership: Serve as the executive leader for the Category for Advantus Health Partners, driving the vision and strategic direction of the product portfolio across acute and ambulatory care settings.

Full Category Oversight: Own the end-to-end process for applicable products and services, from creation and negotiation of supplier contracts to operational execution within the GPO structure. Ensure products meet the needs of complex health systems while adhering to clinical standards.

Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers, including industry leaders. Use advanced negotiation and interpersonal skills to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to innovate within the category space, leveraging market trends and technological advancements to enhance product offerings and improve outcomes. Regularly seek feedback from clinical stakeholders and clients to optimize contracts, products, and services.

Collaborative Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key interface between the supply chain organization, clinical leadership, physicians, and service lines. Ensure seamless communication and alignment across all levels of the organization to support cost-effective and high-quality care delivery.

Team Leadership and Development: Manage and mentor a high-performing team that includes a clinical business unit, contract sourcing team, and data analysts. Empower the team to achieve excellence in category management, while fostering professional growth and development.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize analytics and market intelligence to inform strategic decisions, ensuring that all sourcing activities deliver measurable value and align with the organization’s overall goals.

Thought Leadership: Stay at the forefront of healthcare trends and innovations, serving as a key contributor to the organization’s strategic vision. Be a visible leader both within and outside the organization, representing the business in industry forums and fostering a reputation of excellence.

REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Healthcare Administration, or related field10+ years’ experience working in complex healthcare supply chain, manufacturing, or GPO industry-related roles5+ years’ direct leadership experience

PREFERRED

MBA or MHAClinical experience
