Minimum Qualifications
Position Summary: The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction provides strategic leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of academic curricula and instructional practices at LSUS. This position oversees the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), the Department of Online Learning, and the university's general education curriculum. The Executive Director works closely with academic chairs, deans, and faculty to ensure high-quality instruction, alignment with institutional goals, and compliance with accreditation standards.
In addition to overseeing institutional curriculum efforts, this role incorporates the responsibilities of the General Education Coordinator, including oversight of the General Education Committee, course evaluations, and assessment of student learning outcomes. The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement in curriculum design and instructional practices to support institutional goals related to student success and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
•Supervision and Leadership: o Supervise CELT and the Department of Online Learning, providing strategic direction to advance teaching and learning excellence.
o Chair the General Education Committee, set agendas, facilitate meetings, and ensure the achievement of committee objectives.
•Curriculum Development and Oversight: o Have primary oversight of the General Education curriculum at LSUS.
o Develop and implement a standardized, five-year curriculum review cycle for all programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, student progression, and workforce needs.
o Oversee the evaluation of general education courses to ensure they meet educational standards and goals. Provide feedback to faculty and recommend improvements to enhance course quality and student learning.
o Ensure the general education curriculum is comprehensive, cohesive, and continuously improving by assessing current course offerings and identifying potential gaps.
•Instructional Support and Faculty Collaboration: o Collaborate with faculty, chairs, and deans to align course objectives and student learning outcomes with institutional goals.
o Assist faculty in improving general education courses by offering guidance, resources, and recommendations for instructional enhancements.
o Partner with CELT to deliver professional development initiatives that support faculty in curriculum design, instructional effectiveness, and assessment practices.
•Scheduling and Logistics: o Work with the Registrar and academic departments to ensure effective scheduling of general education courses to meet student demand and support academic progression.
o Manage the integration of Quality Matters standards in online course reviews and ensure consistency across all online offerings.
•Assessment and Compliance o Ensure appropriate assessments are conducted to measure the effectiveness of general education and other curriculum areas, including alignment of course objectives with student learning outcomes.
o Provide regular reports to the Office of Academic Affairs on the status of the general education curriculum, committee activities, and recommendations for curriculum development.
o Ensure compliance with policies from the Board of Regents and Board of Supervisors as well as outside accreditation agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree and five years of experience in higher education administration, or a terminal degree with two years of experience in higher education administration.
• 5 or more years of higher education teaching experience as a tenure-track faculty.
• Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, general education oversight, instructional design, and assessment practices.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, chairs, and deans to achieve institutional goals.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with Quality Matters standards and online learning environments.
• Experience in curriculum mapping, program review, and student learning outcome assessment.
• Knowledge of data-informed decision-making and best practices in teaching and learning.
• Previous experience chairing curriculum-related committees or leading general education initiatives.
