SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Program Leader is a Development Team Lead (DTL). Leads a global cross-functional team of experts and leads the Development Team (DT). The DT is accountable for the integrated strategy and delivery of global drug development programs (IND enabling studies – Filing). The DTL partners with the Project Manager and key stakeholders across the organization to determine key go/no go decision criteria, strategic recommendations, risks, and mitigations within the context of time, quality, and corporate objectives and milestones. The DTL acts as the lead for the product in close consultation with functional leads, has responsibility over the entire project, and is responsible for regular updates to governance. Leads and drives all aspects of the development of a compound.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead cross-functional Development Team and/or Early Franchise Team partnering with functional leads to develop, adapt, and drive an integrated global product strategy.Work closely to influence, advise, and coordinate strategic and operational efforts across all key product development functions, including Development, Regulatory, Safety, CMC, Medical Affairs and Commercial, to ensure strategic alignment and seamless execution. Lead the DT to create a development plan and target product profile that provides a clear strategy, integrating input from all functional areas including key risk and issues and the strategic approach to each, with associated timelines and budgets and providing clarity on alternative pathways and tradeoffs considered.Drive decision-making, lead discussions and challenge functional representatives when needed to ensure that all issues and questions are being addressed, and that functional area input into the strategy is adequate to meet the needs of the compound.Flex between high level strategic views and delving into details at a scientific, medical, development, CMC and commercial level as needed in partnership with the team.Be objective and create solutions to address complex cross-functional problems, be accountable for obtaining stakeholder advice to make informed, data-driven decisions, taking smart and calculated risks to move a program forward in a highly complex, uncertain, and competitive environment.Communicate with executive management and governance committees to address product team needs, issues, resources, and recommendations. Ensure that presentations and communications are clear and effective. Drive team objective setting, prioritization and ensure adherence to plan and strategy.Drive risk management, issue identification and resolution and contingency planning.Maintain strong industry awareness to ensure that product development plans reflect current scientific/medical developments and regulatory/commercial environment.Work in concert with the project manager, prepare and lead effective DT and/or eFT meetings.Build a high performing team culture by engaging matrix team members on the vision and ensuring clear team member roles and responsibilities, promoting team cohesiveness to optimize performance, ensure accountability of team members, and mediate conflict resolution.Ensures compliance with Exelixis policies and procedures.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and a minimum of 18 years of related experience; or,Master’s degree in related discipline and a minimum of 16 years of related experience; or,PhD degree in related discipline a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or,Equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:
At least 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.Experience in oncology is required.Experience working with corporate partners and alliance management.Knowledge/Skills:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $238,000 - $338,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
