The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

The Executive Underwriting Officer, Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America (NA) Specialty Casualty, will report to the NA Casualty Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO). Coordinates across teams of technical directors and product line managers and is accountable for driving coordinated underwriting strategy for GRS NA Specialty Casualty and Excess & Surplus (E&S) Casualty lines. Responsible for sharing technical expertise through transactional support, consultation, training, and audits across E&S and Specialty Casualty lines.

 

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning:

Supports underwriting strategy and annual financial plan, aligned with upstream GRS NA strategies and plansPartners with NA Specialty profit center leaders/CUOs/product line managers and Casualty CUO to set underwriting strategy and monitors performance of plans for pricing, risk origination, market segmentation and risk selectionOversees the collation of product information to inform planning and tracks progress against the defined plan and strategy

 

Execution:

Models effective collaboration across teams, stakeholders, and partners.  Ensures local presence of technical experts within each profit center is integrated into office of underwriting infrastructure and resources.  Participates as a member of product boards and practice groups across NA & globallyProvides subject matter expertise and advisory support to the Casualty CUO as well as profit center leaders/CUOs and product line managers for complex referrals or unusual market developments Manages authority and referrals at the profit center level, where delegated by the CUO, with authority to resolve issues locally where appropriateMonitors execution of Specialty Casualty and E&S Casualty underwriting strategy and portfolio performance against plan; supports the Casualty CUO in any referral(s) escalated

 

UW Capability Development:

Drives technical excellence across Specialty Casualty and E&S Casualty, working with underwriting leaders to identify and resolve issuesWorks with underwriting leaders to identify product and services enhancements, underwriting capability development opportunities (e.g., skills, tools), and elevates to Casualty CUO Qualifications Strong emphasis on experience with E&S Casualty underwriting leadership and/or product management, with expert understanding of E&S Casualty market and trends, competitor landscape and legal and regulatory environment.Experience with setting underwriting strategy and portfolio managementProduct, pricing & underwriting expertise in Commercial and Specialty LinesHas extremely strong technical knowledge of key trends impacting area(s) of underwriting expertiseLeader with a strategic mindset and demonstrated relationship-building ability that provides direction for the underwriting operationsStrategic and growth mindset, able to learn and teach.
