Exercise Assessment Specialist
Summary About the Position: This position is located within the Defense Health Agency supporting the Exercises, and Readiness Division, in Falls Church, Virginia. Note: Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Responsibilities Responsible for analyzing lessons learned, best practices, and tactics, techniques, and procedures for DHA from military operations, training exercises, joint exercises, experiments, and home station training at the DHA HQ. Facilitates and reports integration and implementation of lessons learned, best practices, and tactics, techniques, and procedures supporting the operating and generating forces. Extracts and assesses key issues pertaining to medical operations for dissemination to appropriate agencies within joint communities. Assist the Lessons Manager and the Exercise Branch in the gathering of After-Action Reports (AARs) after each major exercise/event, tracks observations to closure, disseminates lessons learned and best practices. Provides input based on observations of units and gaps identified during training exercises, and real-world medical operations based on collection requirements from organizations across the Military Health System. Monitors and provides input as required for the test and evaluation of operational concepts relating to medical operations. Provides input to key documents for DOTMLPF-P efforts (e.g. operational and organizational concepts, Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) documents, programs of instruction). Coordinates and participates in periodic in-progress reviews (IPRs), joint lessons learned forums, Council of Colonels, General Officer Steering Committees (GOSC), briefings, and conferences. Participates in Joint Training process to identify and manage collection requirements and collection opportunities. Coordinates Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS) inputs and outputs, and conducts the Lessons Learned Working Group as it pertains to the Agency’s Exercises program. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing lessons learned from operations to provide feedback on a variety of key items such as current behavior, shaping goals, and/or build best practices for future operations, assisting in the development of operation exercise assessment methods and/or observation plans, recommending appropriate courses of action to address unresolved problems during exercises, and documenting lessons learned for future references. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Curriculum Development Organizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
