Exercise Physiologist

Position Summary:  

Responsible for coordinating and performing patient cardiac stress testing, Holter monitoring, Cardiac Event monitoring, and EKG services. This will include patient instruction, education, procedure setup, and review testing data. Employees will follow hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

Review and interpret patient laboratory results and medical record history prior to stress testing. 

Perform all department exercise and pharmacologic testing studies, including: explaining procedures/significance/safety precautions, instructing patient, administering medication for pharmacologic testing, monitoring patient vitals, utilizing necessary equipment to produce accurate EKG tracings, interpreting EKG, recognizing and identifying abnormal rhythms/cardiac issues during testing. 

Works efficiently with other departments and correlates exams as a team. 

Communicates with Cardiologist overseeing cardiac stress testing and consults when required. 

Set up, instruct patient, review data obtained from Holter monitoring and Cardiac Event monitoring.  

Generate testing reports for physician interpretation. 

Enter appropriate data/information into electronic medical record. 

Process paperwork for billing purposes.  

Respond and assist during hospital-wide emergency situations (rapid response/code teams). 

Seeks to improve quality of service by continuously developing individual and departmental competencies within scope of practice.

Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department. 

Qualifications: 

Required: 

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or Physiology 

BLS and ACLS certified within 30 days of hire.  

Preferred: 

Certification through the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP)  

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities. 

Competency in applying the principles, methods, materials, and equipment necessary in providing exercise physiology. 

Current knowledge of treatment theories, practices, and techniques per discipline. 

Ability to lead PT assistants and technicians. 

Knowledge and skill with common office software applications. 

Compliance with the Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct.

__ Sedentary Work:  Lifting 10 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying such  

articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools.  Although sedentary job is defined as one which 

                             involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out 

                             job duties.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and 

                             other sedentary criteria are met. 

 

__ Light Work:  Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects 

                             weighing up to 10 pounds.  Even though the weight lifted may be only negligible  

                             amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant 

                             degree, or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling 

                             of arm and/or leg controls. 

 

X Medium Work:  Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of 

               objects weighing 25 pounds or more.   

 

__ Heavy Work:  Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of 

               objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  

 

__ Very Heavy Work:  Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or 

               carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in exercise science or physiology. BLS certified within 30 days of hire. 

Preferred:
