Responsible for assessment of patients, development and implementation of patient interventions and monitoring the effectiveness of those interactions in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Supports the mission, vision, and values of The Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center and, under the direction of the Director of Cardiology, contributes to the accomplishment of the purpose of the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center. Under the general direction of the Director of Cardiology, the exercise physiologist is responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled including on call status. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Obtains accurate patient history and physical assessment and reviews diagnostic data in order to stratify patient’s risk level and individualize patient’s plan of care.
2. Identifies patients’ cardiovascular and pulmonary risk factors and individual risk factor modification needs.
3. Provides direct care of outpatient population by regulating prescribed exercise regimens, in accordance with the department’s policies and procedures. Regulates exercise and activity to patients' responses within prescribed levels under appropriate guidelines.
4. Monitors, corrects and reports patient’s participation and progress in the exercise program to appropriate physician. Interpret physiological data from exercise lists.
5. Provides evaluation and recommendation of patient's self-care activities. Educates patients concerning monitoring of symptoms and adjusting activity and exercise.
6. Collaborates with Cardiac Rehabilitation team members and physicians to coordinate care, and evaluate response of patients to plan of care.
7. Assists with the educational component of the rehab program and utilizes learning strategies to meet patient learning needs.
8. Performs related tasks and all other activities/tasks as directed by the Department Director/supervisor.
9. Serves as a positive role model of heart healthy lifestyle.
10. Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, perform any related responsibility as required or directed and greet guest in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.
11. Responsible for immediate medical emergency support of patients in accordance with ACLS and hospital policy.
12. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology required.LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current certification as an Exercise physiologist or related experienceResponsible for Continuing Education units annuallyBLS and ACLS certifications must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this positionEXPERIENCE:
Twelve months in cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the exercise physiologist profession as normally acquired through the completion of a diploma, associated, baccalaureate, or master's degree in exercise physiology.Ability to communicate with and motivate patients and their families consistently with a positive effect. Must also display active participation in keeping current in cardiovascular/pulmonary literature and related issues.
