Exercise Physiologist II
Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Department: Cardiac Rehabilitation Position is located: Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Work Type: PRN Hours Per Week: Variable Work Schedule: Variable Summary: Instruct and monitor individuals with chronic disease in group exercise. Assists and provides exercise prescriptions. Instructs classes/individuals/community on risk factor modification and wellness. Assists in data collection and documentation. Responsibilities: + Assists in development and implements safe and effective exercise programming for primary and secondary prevention. + Develops and teaches patients and their partners the components of a risk reducing exercise practice including self-monitoring, rate of perceived exertion, aerobic and resistance training. + Collaborates with other disciplines to create and teach risk reduction and optimize activity tolerance to subsets of the population such as: the overweight, the diabetic, those with heart failure, coronary artery disease and those with vascular disease. + Teaches orientation to exercise + Monitors the exercise session process to facilitate best practice consistency and role function clarity between exercise staff. + Introduces most effective evidence-based techniques to staff for use with different patient populations such as the elderly, those with heart failure, and the obese + Develops the exercise training and physiology understanding of the staff and multi-disciplinary team members. + Monitors the quality of the exercise programming. + Acts with compassion to patients post cardiac event. + Regularly assesses emotional healing process post cardiac event. + Offers and teaches education on stress/emotional management. + Refers patients to appropriate counseling. Other Information: Degree (requirement) MS in Exercise Science or similar degree programs or BS degree in Exercise Science (or similar program) with an ASCM Certification – Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification is not required with an MS, but we will work toward ACSM certification for CEP (Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist) Experience in a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program preferred Competencies and Skills + Basic Life Support + Behaves with Integrity and Builds Trust: Acts consistently in line with the core values, commitments and rules of conduct.
