The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three and four-dimensional tracking sensor data and other unique testing facility support capabilities. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) supporting Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training, and is Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Division Newport's largest single team project, providing support for both deep and shallow water test and training environments. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES: + Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair on exercise torpedoes (MK-46/MK-50 REXTORP's, MK-48, MOD 4, 5, 6, 7 and MK-46, 54 EXTORP's) and associated equipment in accordance with NAVAIR/NAVSEA guidelines. + Operate tractor-trailer, forklift, and overhead cranes per NAVFAC guidelines. + Conduct rigging operations of heavy equipment per NAVFAC standards. + Handle, package, transport hazardous ordnance material up to 1.1 per NAVORD standards. + Operate torpedo data extraction computer per NAVSEA standards. + Operate and maintain the breathing air system in support of the torpedo operations. + Provide training and technical guidance to lower-level technicians. + Will assist in supervision of lower-level technicians. + Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: + Certification in forklift + Certification in tractor-trailer + Certification in overhead crane operations. + Must pass annual CPR / First Aid training. + Must pass NAVSEA/NAVAIR Torpedo Certification program. + Must pass NAVFAC Crane Certification for CAT III overhead cranes. + A valid US Passport + A valid Driver’s License is required REQUIRED SKILLS ANDEXPERIENCE: + Three (3) or more years related experience working in a torpedo shop environment. + One (1) or more years certification in forklift, tractor-trailer, and overhead crane operations. + One (1) year electronics technology experience or locally obtained certification in REXTORP preps and weapon data extractions. + One (1) or more years supervisory experience. + Must pass NAVOSH/OSHA respirator certification upon hire. + Must meet qualifications for Naval ordnance certification program. + Excellent communication skills to interface with all levels of personnel in a multi-cultural team-oriented environment. + Attention to detail. + Good personal computer and Microsoft Office products skill with emphasis on Word. + Analytical skills to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. + Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of material or equipment. + Must be able to pass an Otto Fuel II and HEP physical yearly. + Must be able to work and wear 30 pounds of equipment regularly. + Must be able to regularly work in a controlled environment where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in full hazmat suit and utilizing a breathing apparatus. + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
