As a member of the VCA team, you will support Technician and Doctor teams by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients. Your mission will be to win the confidence of every pet parent—by delivering an outstanding client experience—so we can provide exceptional care to every patient. The skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to:
Physical examinations and patient assessment Anesthesia monitoring Surgical preparation and assisting Dentistry Radiology Laboratory work Venipuncture Catheter placement Pharmacy Patient recovery Compassionate care of our hospitalized animalsTo ensure success as a Veterinary Assistant, you should be able to anticipate and tend to the needs of animals. Ultimately, a top-notch Veterinary Assistant will be able to tailor their care according to animals' physical, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. As a Veterinary Assistant, you must have a positive attitude and a genuine love for dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes. In this role, you do more than cleaning and disinfecting our kennels — you also learn animal care and behavior basics while assisting our team with appointments, restraint, treatments, and cleaning. You should also be able to promptly communicate diminished functioning to the Certified Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinarian on call. Having previous experience in a pet care environment or kennel management is desired, but we will provide training to the right candidate.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Transporting animals to and from the kennels within the hospital.Ensuring that the animals have ample, fresh food and water at all times, when applicable.Cleaning animal waste, spilled food, hair, and other debris from the kennels.Disposing of trash in a timely manner.Administering treatment to animals under the auspices of the Veterinarian.Accompanying animals on walks, if required.Calming animals who are in distress.Reporting significant changes in functioning to the Veterinarian or medical professional on duty.Evacuating all animals if an emergency occurs.Assisting Veterinarians in appointments, during treatments, or proceduresBasic customer service and client educationApplicant Requirements:
Previous experience caring for animals will be advantageous.Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds unaided.A passion for animal welfare.Available to work during evenings, and on weekends and public holidays, if required.If you are a current associate, you need to apply through our internal career site.
