Expert Chief Engineer

Mercury Systems is seeking a motivated, experienced Director of Engineering/Chief Engineer (CE) for its Mixed Signal Line of Business. The Mixed Signal Line of Business produces innovative Microelectronics utilizing cutting edge programmable gate array (FPGA) components and integrated RF system in packages. The Mixed Signal Line of Business is focused on driving down the size, weight and power of sensor processing capabilities targeted at the most advanced radar and high bandwidth signal processing.

 

As Chief Engineer of the Mixed Signal Line of Business, you will be the technical conscience of the Business, ensuring the system(s), product(s), and service(s) being developed and delivered are viable, fit for purpose, and will satisfy customer needs, product/system requirements, and the mission and/or application. The selected individual will be familiar with the latest microelectronics, RF and microwave technology trends, will be able to interact regularly with the DoD and OEM customer base, and will be a technical leader driving our engineering teams to meet technical, cost, schedule and quality benchmarks. The individual will provide technical leadership on new business development for this program area. This position will require occasional business-related travel.

 

Reporting to the VP, CE of Signal Technologies for Mercury, the CE is the primary owner of the technical solution (to include the technical portion of cost and schedule) and the technical interface to Program, Engineering, and Executive leadership

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

The Mixed Signal Chief Engineer is the single engineering leadership point of contact and is responsible for the engineering execution of an entire line of business. The Mixed Signal Chief Engineer will effectively partner with Technical Program Manager and Functional leads within an Engineering Matrix to accomplish the goals of the Line of Business.  Leads (system) architecture design and optimization activities, trades and analyses Ensures system design and implementation meet technical requirements and customer/mission needs within allocated engineering cost & schedule Ensures system design is realizable, maintainable, supportable and testable Drives technical risk and opportunity definition, identification, mitigation/realization Technical interface to Customer, PMO and executive leadership: Understand requirements, missions, use cases, and constraints Responsible for identifying technical risks and issues including impact assessment, mitigation, minimization and closure plans Active mentoring of engineering talent  Ensure team adheres to Mercury’s cultural principals, policies, and vision Collaborate with senior management on Chief Engineer recruiting, development, and talent pipeline.

 

Required Qualification:

Minimum of 10 years of mixed experience in high performance sensor processing systems design, integration and test, and system qualification.  Demonstrated prior success as Lead Design Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, Program Chief Engineer or Integrated Product Team Lead with demonstrated advancing levels of responsibility Design experience with RF, Microwave, microelectronics and other DoD applications of similar complexity.  Demonstrated prior success as Technical Lead on major proposals, and ability to brief internally and externally at the senior executive level.  Strong systems and design engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to establish a strong technical baseline with disciplined change management, while operating in a rapid development environment.  Demonstrated ability to lead across a highly multi-disciplinary role, requiring experience across all design engineering disciplines, technical supplier management, business development, and program leadership.  Ability to independently produce whitepapers and conference briefings to support the capture of new opportunities and marketing of emerging technologies.  Ability to independently interact and lead engagement with senior customers.  Strong team player with good interpersonal skills as well as excellent written/verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualification:

Advanced degree Preferred Capture Management and Program Management leadership experience  Knowledge of DoD architecture and standards (e.g., USAF OA Radar, SOSA, JADC2, ABMS, etc.)  A significant part of the engineering team is split between sites across the United States - This role will require on-site support at multiple sites and associated travel.  Preferred candidates local to Huntsville, AL or Saddle River, NJ
