Position Summary:
As a Mason County MSU Extension 4-H team member, you will market, plan, and facilitate direct programming with youth (ages 5-19). During programming, you will be responsible for encouraging participation in hands on active learning in order to promote critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and communication skills in youth participants.
Other duties include: ensuring safety of children, visitors and co-workers, site set up and breakdown, check-ins, on site presence, or other duties or projects as assigned by your supervisor.
Depending on candidate availability, the program assistant typically works 20-25 hours/week. This position requires reliable transportation in order to convey equipment and supplies to each programming site.
Desired Qualifications
+ Must be 18 years or older.
+ Experience working or volunteering with youth in in-school, after-school, summer camp, etc. settings.
+ Experience with group/classroom management and facilitation.
+ Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
+ Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
+ Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
+ Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
+ Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills.
+ Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
+ Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
+ Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
