External Corporate Communications Lead

Humana seeks a dynamic and experienced media and public relations pro to join the Corporate Communications team in support of our Insurance Segment. As the External Corporate Communications Lead, you will be a critical player in our communication efforts for the Medicare line of business. You will implement policies and programs to enhance and protect corporate reputation and brand among external audiences, such as news media, consumers, influential thought leaders, healthcare providers, employers and others. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and a self-starter who can develop productive relationships with journalists, counsel senior leaders, carry public relations plans from concept to completion, and handle complex priorities while managing multiple projects.

Key Role Functions

Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic communications plan to support key business priorities across Humana’s Insurance Segment

Responsibilities encompass media relations, public relations, digital and social media, and thought leadership/executive communications

Handle and field media inquiries and responses for external needs

Provide strategic advice and counsel for cross functional teams and leaders; support efforts in elevating the visibility of the business while managing communications effectively

Experience in issue manage and crisis communications

Oversee project planning, execution, and communication products/deliverables

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field OR equivalent work experience in related field

8+ years of experience in media relations, PR or communications

Proven experience in developing and executing successful media campaigns with measurable impact

Proven crisis management experience

Social media savvy

Familiarity with public relations measurement techniques

Strong, demonstrated persuasive writing experience

Excellent verbal & written communication skills

Proven ability to interact with all levels of leadership in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Strong project management skills and attention to detail

Must be available for occasional overnight travel up to 20% per year depending on business needs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a PR agency or in a regulated industry, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations

Experience in healthcare communications

Medicare experience

Additional Information 

This is a nationwide remote role that will primarily operate on EST/CST business hours.

This position requires occasional overnight travel up to 20%

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership

Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$115,200 - $158,400 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
