EXTRA HAND/ LABORER (VALDOSTA MILL)

The Extra Hand is a full-time position with the potential to work 12 hours shifts. The Valdosta Mill is a 24-hour operation; candidates must be able to work any assigned rotating shifts and be available on short notice of overtime. Assist department-wide where needed with general utility and physical labor functions. Assistance may include but, not limited to, utility services including moving, spotting and operating equipment, clean up, wash up, unplugging chutes, turning valves and making storeroom supply runs, etc.


Basic Qualifications:

Position requires minimum age 18

High School diploma or G.E.D

Work any assigned rotating shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime

At least two years of full or part-time work in the last four years

Ability to read, write and speak in English

Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screen.


Preferred Qualifications:

Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred.

At least 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, equipment or process operations and equivalent skills in an industrial manufacturing environment.


The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to be able to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers

Ability to exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills.

Capable of independently making sound decisions through creative problem-solving, ambiguity and change

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously

Ability to read and understand technical correspondence, memos, instructions, and reports.

Ability to trade off, or substitute for the Extra Hand and/or entry-level positions throughout the mill.

 

Tests and Board Interview:

Those selected to go through the PCA hiring process will be asked to take a series of five written tests and take part in a structured board interview.

The five written tests are all timed and involve:

Basic mechanical principles

Basic arithmetic skills

The ability to visualize three-dimensional figures

The ability to compare numbers or patterns quickly and accurately

Basic verbal ability

 

The interview will be conducted by a four-person board and involves a review of each candidate’s:

Work history

Achievements and accomplishments

Knowledge and skill acquisition

Interpersonal skills and helpfulness

Task-related likes and dislikes

Physical demands experienced in previous jobs
