Extrusion Operator - Night Shift

A qualified Extruder Operator has knowledge of the extrusion line and accessory equipment, is capable of setting up and safely operating extruders within company guidelines. The Operator understands and performs all tasks in conformance with technical instruction sheets, posted general instructions, verbal instructions, and completes required documentation. The Operator is expected to monitor for and detect faulty machine operation, defective materials and/or process problems and communicate to the supervisor.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of the extrusion line/equipment, including control panel(s), payoffs, take-ups/traversing systems, capstans, quality control equipment, i.e., dimensional control, compound feed hoppers and accumulation and tensioning systems. Mount payoff reels, thread extrudate through cooling trough, metering capstans, tensioning systems and quality control systems to take-up. Ensure proper selection of tips, dies and print wheel (if required). Set gears, ratios and heats to required specifications. Set any marker tapes, separator tapes or adhesives as specified. Attend to machine during operation, making adjustments to tension, line speed, O.D. and center as necessary.  Change payoff and take-up reels as required. Perform extrusion line tasks in conformance with Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWI), Quality checklist, the safe work practice summary and the process setup sheets.  Verify conductor size, number of strands, lengths and required insulating compounds are correct. Complete documentation, including OD/wall charts, compound lot records, length sheets, traveler reel tags, traceability sheets/tags and labor reporting sheets. These are the general duties required to fulfill the Primary Extruder Operator job description, not a detailed description of all work required.  New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the business. Prepare empty reels for use; Process finished reels for shipping. Perform Cleanouts and Setups for machines. Make material mixes for machines; Weigh, Record, and Grind scrap from assigned area. Watch lines during Operator absence; Housekeeping and performing various tasks. Troubleshoot problems with assistance. Use a micrometer/caliper to periodically check product running to ensure quality. POSITION HOURS 7:00 PM TO 7:00 AM
