FAA Avionics/Electrical Technician II

Position Purpose:
The Avionics/Electrical Technician II provides technical expertise in the testing, troubleshooting, and repair of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. The technician ensures that system discrepancies are resolved promptly to minimize schedule impact and maintain safety and quality standards. The role may also involve taking on additional responsibilities, including filling in for the Senior Avionics/Electrical Technician, to ensure company goals are met while adhering to work plans and maintaining schedule requirements.
 
Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Four (4) years of experience in an avionics/electrical career field, OR

Two (2) years of accredited schooling in aviation electronics and two (2) years of related experience.

A&P (FAA Airframe and Powerplant) license preferred.

FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification preferred.

NCATT (National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies) certification preferred.

 
Essential Functions:

Technical Skills & Expertise:

Demonstrates advanced technical skills in avionics and aircraft systems operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair.

System Installation & Testing:

Performs the installation, functional testing, and troubleshooting of electrical/avionics components and systems on aircraft, following Engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals, ensuring defect-free systems.

Quality & Efficiency Assurance:

Ensures all installations meet high-quality standards and efficiency requirements.

Troubleshoots issues and provides timely, quality repairs to malfunctioning systems.

Component & Wiring Repairs:

Effectively and efficiently repairs or replaces defective components and wiring to ensure installations meet conformity and operational standards.

Demonstrates proficiency in repair techniques such as splicing, soldering, and pinning of wiring.

Engineering Modifications:

Performs and complies with engineering changes and modifications to improve system performance.

Test Equipment Setup & Operation:

Sets up and operates necessary test equipment to conduct functional and operational tests that evaluate the performance and reliability of avionics and electrical systems.

Documentation & Inspection:

Ensures that all work performed on the aircraft is properly and thoroughly documented, making it ready for inspection and final approval.

Test Equipment Maintenance:

Tests and maintains test equipment, ensuring electronic systems and components remain in working order.

Safety Compliance:

Adheres to the company’s FOD (Foreign Object Debris) program, tool control program, 5-S program (workplace organization), and all safety regulations to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.

Schedule Adaptability:

Adapts to sudden changes in work schedules and priorities to ensure continuous progress and meeting of deadlines.

 

Additional Functions:

Aircraft Certification & Testing Support:

May participate in aircraft certification processes and final phase testing, which could include flight tests on aircraft as required.

Additional Duties:

Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support the goals of the team and company.

 

Other Requirements:

Cross-Disciplinary Knowledge:

Preferred proficiency in operating and troubleshooting aircraft systems outside of avionics, such as hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, environmental controls, or structural installations and repairs.

Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation:

Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and schematic diagrams, ensuring alignment with aircraft specifications and regulatory requirements.

Communication Skills:

Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and can effectively collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 pounds as part of the essential duties of the job.

 
Work Environment:

The work environment involves exposure to varying levels of noise, airborne particles, and temperature changes. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when required to ensure safety standards are maintained.



Pay Details: $32.19 per hour
