Job Summary
The University of Michigan Health System is seeking a Facilities Building Manager to join its Facilities team. As an integral member of the Facilities and Operations team, the Facilities Building Manager is assigned specific Michigan Medicine clinical care building(s) which may be offsite of the main medical campus in order to serve as primary customer representative for building occupants. This staff member coordinates construction projects, utility shutdowns, and facility impacts; monitors maintenance and service requests; enforces facility policies and procedures; and assesses and reports on facility related matters daily. Overall, the regulatory and esthetic oversight of each assigned building is responsibility of the Facilities Building Manager to track and ensure work is completed.

Act as liaison between building occupants, facilities staff, maintenance staff, project managers and other service providers. Provide status updates on facilities related issues to building occupants, leadership, and other stakeholders through correspondence, reports, and presentations. Tour assigned buildings on a regular basis and identify, document and follow-up on facility matters requiring attention. Submit maintenance work order requests for repairs and ensure work is completed as required and/or expected. Proactively recommend facility repairs and improvements. Manage resolution of facility issues and monitor progress of improvements. Identify code and regulatory deficiencies during building rounds including but not limited to corridor clearances, allowable storage, access to emergency equipment, fire door operation, etc. and follow up with appropriate parties for correction. Support on-site visits by regulatory authorities including representatives from MBFS, HFES, EHS, TJC and insurance surveyors. Coordinate and conduct code required fire drills and be an on-site resource for life safety matters. Document and coordinate implementation of interim life safety requirements as needed for construction and maintenance activities.Utilize technical knowledge and building systems information to continually assess facility operations. Develop alternative responses and solutions to facility related issues, evaluate alternatives with subject matter experts and other resources, and implement proper course of action.Review, schedule, coordinate, and communicate utility system shutdowns and room closures to support construction projects and maintenance work. During construction and maintenance project planning, provide input and guidance for activities including but not limited to schedules, site access, debris removal, safety requirements that may impact operations.Serve as on-site support during emergencies and unexpected events to ensure mission critical services and infrastructure is maintained. Manage small projects, coordinate repairs and restoration efforts for claims of all size and file Risk Management claims for property loss/damage.Provide building oversight for signage and postings and coordinate wayfinding signage improvements with supporting subject matter experts and supporting maintenance staff to execute work. Provide support, guidance, and resources to building occupants on facility related policies, internal space planning/changes, building accessibility, decorations, and special events.Be customer service point of contact for elevator service provider and serve as a liaison to campus-provided services such as DPSS, Grounds, Parking and Transportation Services, Pest Management, Risk Management, and Waste Management. Coordinate and support facility operations and management as required with Construction Services, Environmental Services, Infection Prevention, and Safety Management Services.Required Qualifications*4-year degree (BA or BS) in science, engineering, or management discipline or over 8 years of combined relevant experience, or technical training or journeyman's license may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.8 or more years of experience in facilities operations, maintenance, or construction in highly regulated facilities with complex building systems.Strong knowledge of overall building systems operations knowledge.Excellent written, verbal communication, and customer service skills.Knowledge of life safety codes and regulatory standards.Solid critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.Working on site is mandatory for this position. This is not a remote (working from home or elsewhere) working position.Must be able to work in active clinical and healthcare environments.
