The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for completing a wide variety of tasks related to physical plant construction, installation, alteration, maintenance and repair. Essential job duties + Inspect, repair and maintain building structures, grounds, and interior structures + Perform work in any of the following areas: maintenance, carpentry, cement finishing, electrical work, gardening/grounds, glazing, heating and refrigeration, locksmithing, masonry, metal work, painting, pest control, pipefitting, plastering, plumbing, roofing, sheet metal work, welding and related mechanical and trade work + Set up for facility functions + Grounds clean-up as directed by supervisor + Work cooperatively with and maintain relationships with laboratory technicians and other professionals within the site + Attend meetings and participate on committees as required + Work overtime as needed + Complete assigned jobs as identified by supervisor or on work orders Education, experience, certification and licensures Required + High school education or equivalent + Minimum 0-1 years’ relevant experience in building systems maintenance OR + Appropriate licenses + Minimum 0-1 years’ related experience in building systems maintenance Preferred + Associate’s degree or equivalent in related field from 2-year college or technical school + Experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment Knowledge, skills and abilities + Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals + Ability to write routine reports and correspondence + Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization + Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook + Excellent Communication skills, both verbal and written + Ability to organize time in order to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities + Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement technical writing and instructions + Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record + Demonstrate knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools and materials used in several maintenance trades + Demonstrate knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the maintenance trades + Ability to work well independently or as part of a team + Ability to work at heights Physical requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Incumbent may be required to obtain/qualify for and maintain the clearance to wear a respirator at a “class B” level or above following OSHA mandated guidelines. Pay Range: $22.13- $25.00/hr.
