The Opportunity:Oversees and optimizes the daily operations of mechanical systems including refrigeration, chillers, HVAC, and cold storage. Ensures an efficient functioning of the central utility plant (CUP) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Manages electrical maintenance tasks. Focuses on enhancing maintenance practices to minimize downtime and reduce operational losses. Develops performance criteria and specifications to meet unique operating requirements while adhering to building, safety codes, and internal directives. Operates independently within established guidelines and policies. This position requires expertise in mechanical engineering, process optimization, and energy management.Analyze all current HVAC, Controls & Electrical systems processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvement strategies for optimal resource use, cost savings, and increased throughputSupervises contractor evaluation and selection process.Manages contractor inspection process to ensure safety and compliance Defines scopes of work and supervises contract labor for small and medium projects under some supervision.Design and implement process improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while reducing production disruptions and unscheduled downtime.Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues, employing problem-solving methodologies like 5-Whys or Fishbone diagrams to understand and address underlying causes Identify sources of operational and production losses, including equipment inefficiencies and process bottlenecks, and implement solutions to minimize waste and improve productivityWork with the maintenance team to create and improve preventive and predictive maintenance plans that enhance equipment reliability and extend the lifespan of assets Investigate causes of equipment downtime, analyze data to identify patterns, and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate downtime.Gather and interpret operational data to monitor performance metrics, generate reports, and make data-driven recommendations for process improvements. Focuses on critical spare parts definition to minimize unplanned downtime.Ensure all Central Utilities Plant ammonia processes and training align with safety regulations and environmental standards, actively contributing to a safe working environmentProvide strong vendor management oversight to control costs, ensure excellent service deliverability, minimize potential safety risks, equipment downtime and drive for optimum asset life from our vendors throughout the lifecycle of their contractual relationship.Who you are:You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
You have 5 years in manufacturing, preferably in a biotech or diagnostic equipment industry with controls and automation experience
In operating, maintaining complex mechanical systems (i.e. central utility plant)
Knowledge of HVAC, utilities, electrical, and energy management systems.
Experience in process engineering with a strong focus on maintenance and reliability in an industrial, manufacturing or facilities environment.
Must have strong vendor management experience to: develop vendor agreement for services, control costs, ensure excellent service deliverability, and minimize potential risks and to drive for optimum benefits from our vendors throughout the lifecycle of their contractual relationship.
Equivalent combination of education and work-related experience accepted.
Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Tucson, AZ is between $99,600 and $185,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
