May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, confined spaces, and/or temperature/weather extremes while on or traveling to/from various job and/or project sites. Shift 8:00am – 5:00pm (Monday – Friday)

Hours of work may vary dependent upon situational factors, emergencies, and crisis management requiring night(s), weekend(s), and holiday(s) response. Job Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President for Facilities Management and Chief Facilities Officer, this position provides leadership and ongoing participation in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the campus wide University of Kentucky Sustainability Strategic Plan as well as inter-dependent facilities services, including waste, recycling, and trucking; Collaborates and engages the campus community, including UK HealthCare, UK Athletics; UK Faculty, and UK Students in identifying shared values and goals for maintaining and improving the three pillars of sustainability: Social, Economic, and Environmental; Acts as primary liaison and advisor to the Chief Facilities Officer and executive leadership in facilitating complex strategies; Maintains an integrated and robust sustainability vision and associated processes, including waste, recycling, and trucking services that align with the University’s strategic goals, and positions the University for success; Provides strategic direction and day-to-day leadership on all Facilities Management communications, trucking, recycling, and zero-waste management services; Understands and utilizes institutional data to support and drive data-driven and collaborative decisions and interventions; Oversees internal and external communications, including designing, developing, and delivering consistent communications of progress and challenges to University stakeholders.
Oversees the design, development, and maintenance of the University’s sustainability website, social media sites, and listservs as well as Facilities Management Communications. andTracks metrics to assess progress and promotes accountability.

In addition, the Director for Facilities Services and Sustainability engages in programs, initiatives, and actions to improve sustainability efforts in education, research, healthcare delivery, operations, planning, and administration; Provides administrative leadership and support, as needed, for all sustainability programs, projects, and initiatives; Provides information and resources to students, faculty and staff to assist with the creation of course content as well as in planning and developing academic or research projects related to sustainability; Coordinates with faculty, staff, students, and vendors to implement sustainability plan initiatives; Serves on various committees, coordinates and leads meetings, working groups, and gathers feedback from campus and community constituencies; Supports integration of sustainability goals and conservation strategies in operational and capital budgeting as well as academic and research planning; identifies funding resources, and where appropriate, applies for funding from internal and/or external sources for sustainability projects; Oversees sustainability funding and operating budgets, tracks expenditures, and ensures available resources are appropriately utilized; and Identifies and pursues grant and resource development opportunities to support sustainability efforts.

Driver’s License — Preferred

Experienced professional in overseeing facilities services, including trucking, recycling, and waste reduction preferably on a higher education and/or medical center campus.

Demonstrated experience in implementing environmental sustainability or related programs; Extensive knowledge of sustainability concepts, best practices and principles; Exceptional Communicator and Presenter. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? Yes Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor’s Degree + 8 Years of directly related experience.
