Job Summary

Under minimum supervision and acting on own initiative and direction, provides support through imputing, monitoring, and/or administering corresponding department initiatives, projects, or programs in accordance with specific instructions and established work procedures. Examples are responsible for the effective interactions with facility staff and vendors for critical building operations such as control and monitoring systems and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and critical equipment such as Edstrom Watering System, Cagewash, and Sterilizers.

Responsibilities Independently inputs, researches and obtains and provides information for complex reports and special assignments. For example ensures that all building systems, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment are operational and compliant with U.S. Army, client and OSHA regulations.May use software specific to department in coordinating and supporting initiatives. For example, act as the backup for response to Siemens Environmental Control and Monitoring Systems (ECMS) Administrator for BRC and King Avenue.Analyzes problems, determines approach, compiles and analyzes data, and prepares reports/recommendations for action by superior; assists in designing processes to enhance work flow. Examples would be to assess maintenance/repair of common laboratory equipment (e.g., Cagewash, Edstrom watering system, sterilizers, etc.) to include establishing and managing of preventative maintenance contracts. Monitoring equipment to ensure operation is within specified parameters, especially to meet the requirements of conducting project work for clients; makes adjustments and repairs as necessary; conducts necessary tests and inspects system equipment and components to detect actual and potential mechanical problems that would affect project work, and takes corrective action. May be required to work overtime and outside of normal working hours (including holidays and weekends).Work is generally of a critical or confidential nature and requires a broad knowledge of departmental and company practices, policies and programs. By ensuring that preventative maintenance is performed, and nonscheduled repairs are completed on schedule with minimal project impact. And establishing and managing preventative maintenance contracts required for critical infrastructure systems.Coordinates activities between departments and outside parties; following up on pending details, coordinating project team activities and ensuring deadlines are met.  Works with facilities to analyze preventative maintenance data to identify trends with equipment performance (e.g. blowers, filters, generators, compressors); interprets data and makes recommendations to management to reduce operational costs. Trains research staff on mechanical systems, alarms, and responses. Monitors facility and maintenance requests.  Performs variety of other coordinating duties in support of specialized department goals.

Key Qualifications High School Diploma4-6 years’ experience; or equivalent education and years of experience.Good oral and written communications skills and ability to prioritize and organize work.Self-initiative and ability to work independently.Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize work under tight deadlines and changing priorities.Requires an advanced working knowledge of commonly used PC applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases.Depending on area of support, may be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
