Facility Engineer

We are seeking a Facility Engineer in our East Granby, CT facility, whwere we develop and produce specialty optical fiber.  This role will analyze and oversee overall improvements for the plant, office, and production equipment in this location.  Responsibilities will include evaluating equipment layouts, installations, and maintenance with a focus on working toward economy of operation to maximize the use of space and equipment. This position will also be responsible for ensuring equipment down time and recovery metrics are tracked and met to budget supporting for all groups within the East Granby location.

Functions/Responsibilities:

Lead facility layout improvements and manage construction project planning, budgeting, and execution Evaluate and justify equipment replacement costs based on downtime/runtime data Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of R&D and production equipment Manage facility contracts, including cleaning, security, and supplies Develop and maintain a robust preventative maintenance program, including scheduling, calibration, and tracking using the Manufacturing Execution System (Cumulus) Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards Support waste disposal processes and hazardous material management in collaboration with EH&S Administer purchase orders and budget tracking for facility-related activities

Education/Experience:

BS degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, civil, industrial or chemical or equivalent years of directly related experience 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment 5 years of equipment maintenance experience preferred 5 years HVAC repair and installation experience preferred Proven proficiency in Excel and in Power Point for presentation reporting and trend analysis 

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Strong project management skills Excellent communication and negotiation skills Process cooling and industrial chilled water systems UPS, transfer switch and diesel generator  Argon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen bulk delivery systems  Technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical or facility systems  Experience with Lean manufacturing principles is a plus Position may require some basic physical activity up to but not limited to: walk, push, pull, climb, stoop, and on occasion lift ~50lbs
