Overview Summary: The Facility Operator’s primary function is to ensure high quality material is safely obtained, produced, and handled. This position provides industry related technical assessments and manages the inventory levels of materials including logistical processes and documentation requirements. Facility operations to include proper operation and maintenance of all equipment including light electrical. This position is responsible for the housekeeping of all responsible areas and equipment. The Facility Operator requires daily interaction with the host company, promoting a teamwork environment. This position is inside an Iron making facility – blast furnace at Burns Harbor Steel Mill. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure that all tests are safely being performed according to plant and industry standards, including all pertinent ASTM, ACI, and DOT testing procedures and evaluations Sample, test, monitor, and report on daily production of materials at the Burns Harbor facility in the area for compliance of applicable specifications; including Federal, State and project specifications Advise host production facility and Ozinga management of all irregularities and relay test reports as required Ensure that all products/samples are labeled correctly and clearly Manage inventory and generate reports accordingly Coordination of logistics, scale ticketing, stockpile, and inventory management Executing and documenting QC checklist/as-built drawings for all products and equipment Perform visual inspection assessments of jobsite conditions, solutions, and recommendations to correct problems if they occur; maintain a safe jobsite and working conditions Orderly site housekeeping/compliance Mechanical and electrical maintenance on daily basis Proper maintenance and operation of all equipment - fixed and mobile Continuous improvement practices all tasks and duties 100% participation in companies’ safety program Employee Relations: Advise host production company and Ozinga management of all irregularities and relay test reports as required Communicate with customers, vendors, transportation companies, and the host company administrators regarding product utilization and logistics Work in a heavy industrial environment, iron making facility at Burns Harbor required Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs Qualifications: Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required Valid driver's license required Working knowledge of all the products and materials used in the production of the product Experience: Equipment experience preferred (Man Lift, Skid Steer, Loader) Industrial work environment experience preferred Skills/Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Suite Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient in mechanical skills High competency in Safety Working Conditions: Operation within a fast-paced environment Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions High heat environment, confined space entry, possible gas exposure, heavy industrial environment Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and required personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratories Personal protection equipment (hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection, gas monitors) required Use of standard office equipment Physical Requirements: Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms Walking, climbing and standing on uneven, muddy or frozen job sites in both daylight and after dark Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl Frequent use of stairs, use of fall protection, operation of equipment (AEWP, manlift, company truck), connecting hoses, sampling trucks Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment Must be able to frequently bend in order to obtain sample Ability to perform maintenance duties in tight spaces Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and job sites as necessary Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times a day Lifting and carrying tools and/or product, connecting hoses to the truck, often on difficult terrain We offer a competitive salary, medical, dental and vision insurance, and much more!
