Position Summary: The Philosophy Program at College of Western Idaho is looking for adjunct faculty members to teach lower-division Philosophy courses in hybrid and online environments. Successful candidates are required to use the Blackboard learning platform for grading, posting office hours, making announcements, etc. The successful candidate may be asked to teach M-F during the day or evening, or Saturday at any of the College of Western Idaho’s campus locations. To reach a broad range of students, the College of Western Idaho encourages instructors to use a variety of teaching styles and methods. Essential Functions: • Teach contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog • Utilize outcomes assessment measures • Participates in instructional evaluation processes • Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviations promptly and accurately communicated through the appropriate channels • Monitor and record student progress, maintain accurate records, and adhere to the College of Western Idaho’s deadlines for such procedures • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students • Read, understand, agree, and adhere to the Arts & Humanities’ Letter of Teaching Appointment • Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: • Master’s degree in Philosophy or Master’s degree in a related field • Ability to enact a variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development • Proficiency in the use of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, and Canvas applications • Previous online teaching experience preferred • Availability for teaching in-person modalities preferred. • Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other applicable legally protected status.
