Faculty Opening: Emerging Technologies and Policy

SAIS invites applications for a faculty position in international affairs. The faculty appointment will be an endowed chair as a professor of practice or at any level on the tenure track. The ideal candidate is an established leader who has extensive experience with practice and scholarship in international affairs, with a particular emphasis on emerging technologies. The position is ideal for an entrepreneurial policy scholar with a proven track record of building ambitious international partnerships. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) in the United Arab Emirates to investigate methods for using emerging technologies to achieve policy objectives in rapidly changing areas such as development and sustainability, zero carbon energy, climate technology, food security, and governance. The chair holder is expected to travel to the UAE twice annually to conduct research, participate in joint conferences and events, and deliver a series of courses for AGDA students. This role emphasizes fostering academic collaboration and advancing cross-cultural exchange in the region. The primary responsibilities include policy-oriented research, teaching courses, and supporting co-curricular activities related to the nexus of emerging technologies and international affairs. The position will be based in Washington, DC. The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University. Rank will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. This appointment is a full time position, scheduled to commence in the fall semester of 2025. Candidates with either a STEM or international policy background are strongly encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. is preferred but not necessary. Salary: Professor of Practice: $150,000-$180,000 - Assistant Professor: $125K-$155K - Associate Professor : $170,000-$209,000 - Full: $250,000-$300,000 Applicants are required to submit: 1. C.V. 2.
