Faculty Position - Civil & Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025. This position is in support of a strategic initiative under the broad theme of sustainable resilient (SuRe) systems. The department's guiding vision is to generate solutions through cutting-edge research focusing on SuRe systems. Current strengths of the sustainable and environmental engineering (SEE) group include environmental systems analysis, environmental microbiology, and treatment of legacy and emerging contaminants. We seek candidates whose research complements and enhances our current strengths, particularly in the design and implementation of innovative processes and technologies for resource recovery, environmental chemistry, and indoor/outdoor air pollution. We are especially interested in researchers who employ interdisciplinary approaches and innovative methodologies.

The University of Pittsburgh and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offer a collaborative and supportive environment. We seek candidates who will contribute to this culture and can collaborate with existing centers. Relevant Centers include the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, the Pittsburgh Collaboratory for Water Research, Education, and Outreach, the Impactful Resilient Infrastructure Science and Engineering (IRISE), and the Center for Social and Urban Research. Outstanding computational resources are available through the Center for Research Computing (CRC) and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC).

Minimum Qualifications Required: To be considered for the positions candidates should have: (1) an earned doctorate in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related field; (2) a viable plan to develop and sustain a strong, externally funded research program; (3) ability and desire to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs; (4) commitment to support service and diversity initiatives in the Department, the Swanson School of Engineering, and the University of Pittsburgh. Candidates with a PE license or with the ability to pursue licensure are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to appointees at the Assistant Professor level, but applicants with outstanding credentials may be considered at other levels.
