Position Description:
The School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to appoint a Professor of Practice in the Educational Leadership program. This individual will play a critical role in the School’s educational leadership and teacher education programs. We are looking for a practitioner-scholar who can creatively contribute to the intersection of educational leadership and teacher education through theory, research, scholarship and partnerships with schools, districts, and communities. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to reimagining educational leadership while promoting equity and fostering meaningful partnerships across schools, districts, and communities
The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leading Educational Leadership programs include the K-12 Principal Certification, Master’s in Educational Leadership, and EdD in Educational Leadership/Superintendent Letter of Eligibility (LoE). Candidates must hold an EdD or PhD and demonstrate the ability to contribute meaningfully to these programs.
The ideal candidate will align with the School’s mission and vision for educational equity and advocacy for children and youth. They should have professional experience in supervising field experiences and internships, partnering with school districts, and supporting future leaders. As several of our programs are delivered online, experience designing and teaching engaging online courses is essential. The faculty member’s duties will include teaching, advising students, service, and scholarship.
Responsibilities:
1. Teach, advise, and mentor EdD students pursuing a variety administrative and executive posts in educational leadership.
2. Teach, advise, and mentor MEd students in educational leadership.
3. Contribute to the development of the educational leadership programs.
4. Recruit EdD students to the educational leadership programs.
5. Contribute to the mission of the University, School, and Department.
6. Partner with regional, national, and international institutions of educational leadership.
7. Associate with local, state, and national higher education leaders and professional organizations.
8. Develop connections in urban and rural Appalachia. As such, it is directly connected to the work of our colleagues across departments and the Center for Urban Education. Importantly, this position will continue our capacity to support The Tri-State Area School Study Council and the Forum for Western Pennsylvania School Superintendents, as well as explore additional regional educational leadership support programs that might be offered by the University.
9. Contribute to research in educational leadership which includes presenting at conferences (locally and nationally), and conducting research studies that could be empirical, community-based, or informed by practice.
Potential Educational Leadership Courses:
The faculty member will teach courses in the K-12 Principal Certification Program/Master’s degree in Education Leadership and the Superintendent Letter of Eligibility/EdD in Education Leadership
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate (EdD or PhD) in education or a related discipline
• Direct experience in educational leadership and teacher education
• Demonstrated experience in transformative leadership, teaching, and collaborative partnerships
Preferred Qualifications:
• Holds or has held a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility
• Holds or has held Principal Certification
• Experience with educational leadership and teacher education through theory, research, scholarship, and partnerships with schools, districts, and communities
• Experience with educational equity and advocacy for children and youth
• Experience teaching online and in-person in a university setting
• Experience designing online courses
