The University of Pittsburgh Physicians Heart and Vascular Institute and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are recruiting a cardiac surgeon to join our expanding team. The successful candidate will practice as a cardiac surgeon in a dual capacity within the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery including clinical, research, and teaching responsibilities. He/she will participate in outreach efforts for the HVI, expanding inpatient and outpatient activities at locations within the HVI service area. As a faculty member, the successful candidate will actively participate in the research and educational mission of the HVI.
Faculty positions at various levels in the tenure/non-tenure track are available at the University of Pittsburgh with rank and salary commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Pennsylvania medical license
- Board Certified or board-eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Demonstrated excellent clinic outcomes
- Experience as a teacher or mentor of medical students and residents
Available positions are open to all applicants who hold doctoral-level education in the field of medicine (MD, DO), are board certified or board eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery, are qualified for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and have completed necessary training related to Cardiothoracic specialty to provide clinical service.

Applicants for Assistant Professor should have three or more years of experience and should demonstrate teaching ability, experience in advanced study and research, or professional experience of a kind that would enable them to make an academic contribution. Applicants for Associate Professor should have five or more years of experience and have strong experience with an impactful scholarship, a local, regional, and developing national reputation, effectiveness as a teacher, and service. Applicants for Professor will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor and should have attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
