The Division of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) is seeking a Director for the Thoracic Pathology Center of Excellence (COE).
Position Highlights:
The role is in the academic clinical track (appointment stream) and requires subspecialty training and academic interest in thoracic surgical pathology.The Thoracic Pathology COE comprises three pulmonary pathologists renowned for expertise in neoplastic and non-neoplastic lung diseases, as well as transplant pathology. The COE processes over 5,000 thoracic cases annually and serves as a local, regional, and national consultation and reference laboratory, including telepathology services.The COE offers an ACGME-accredited Thoracic Fellowship Program (one year).The position is based at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals, providing diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center.The Department of Pathology at UPMC boasts robust resources in Molecular, Digital, and Computational Pathology, with ongoing investments in digital pathology and AI applications.The successful candidate will have extensive involvement in translational pathology initiatives, leveraging the Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, Molecular Anatomic Pathology, and FISH laboratories.Guaranteed protected time and discretionary resources will be provided through the Samuel A. Yousem Endowed Chair for Thoracic Pathology.Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee Thoracic Pathology operations within the COE.Collaborate closely with the Executive Vice-Chair for Anatomic Pathology.Represent the department at UPMC/Hillman Cancer Center COE-specific meetings, as well as at national and international levels.Mentor faculty and oversee the department’s mission and goals.Teach thoracic pathology fellows and pathology residents.Participate in sign-out duties for surgical pathology cases as needed.Engage in and support research initiatives.Qualifications:
M.D./D.O. degree with Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology.Subspecialty training and academic interest in thoracic pathology.Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania.A strong record of scholarly activity and publications.Salary and Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience.Appointment as a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh.Participation in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.Application Process:
