Director of ClinicalPathology

RANK/TITLE:

Academic Clinical Pathologist: Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience), Associate Professor (6-10 years of experience) or Professor (10 years); tenure or nontenure depending on qualifications; University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

The University of Pittsburgh in the Department of UPMC Pathology, Section of Laboratory Medicine within UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) Pathology Division. All Divisions in UPMC Laboratory Medicine and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh have a strong commitment to clinical service, research, and education. The UPMC Children’s Pediatric Pathology Division is growing and focused on fostering a collaborative and engaging laboratory workforce, enhancing institutional lab processes, and fostering innovation and discovery within the larger UPMC Health System.

JOB DUTIES:

· Leadership as Medical Director of the Clinical Pathology laboratories in a large, US News and World Report “top 10” Best Children’s Hospital rankings.

· Provide diagnostic service oversight covering Laboratory Medicine (clinical chemistry, clinical immunopathology, clinical microbiology, clinical hematology, and point of care testing) for UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, both inpatient and outpatient, and the Children’s service network.

· Provide directives to the UPMC Hospital System in Pediatric and Adolescent Clinical Laboratory Medicine.

· Actively participate in Divisional educational activities

· Oversee development and LIS functions for UPMC Children’s Hospital Pediatric Pathology.

· Pursue clinical/translational academic endeavors.

· Laboratory-based investigations and entrepreneurial efforts, which are supportable based on prior accomplishments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must have an M.D. or D.O. with board certification in Clinical Pathology

· Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required.

· Experience in a large pediatric hospital-based service is beneficial, together with a proven/potential academic track record.

· Board certification in Pediatric Pathology is not required.

SALARY and BENEFITS:

Salary will be commensurate with experience. The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as well as a participant in the generous UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
