The Failure Analysis Engineering Technician II directly supports activity in the RMA lab in South Portland Maine. This position consists of processing returned power electronic equipment and batteries used in residential and commercial solar installations. Dailly activities include troubleshooting and locating failure(s) in a variety of power electronic equipment, collecting data and entering findings in a cloud-based data entry platform. Other activities include processing returned lithium-ion batteries, assisting with fabrication and wiring of test stations, fabricating test fixtures, providing support for engineering projects including data collection and test setup. This position will directly support efforts related to equipment refurbishment. This role needs an individual to be versatile and dynamic as the job tasks may vary frequently depending upon organizational demand and resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of at least a two-year accredited technician program and two years in a similar position or graduate of a four-year engineering technology program.
Experience operating electrical and electronic test and measurement tools such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes and power supplies.
Basic technical writing skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Electrical or Electronic Engineering technology or equivalent work experience.
Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose failures in electronic circuits utilizing various fault isolation techniques.
Solder through-hole and fine pitch surface mount components.
Debug printed circuit board issues with guidance from process documentation and other members of the team.
Familiarity with Salesforce.
Experience working in an ISO 9001 facility.
Familiarity with ESD mitigation for electronic equipment.
Essential Duties
Equipment Refurbishment: 65%
Swap out designated parts to replace to replace with new hardware.
Validate functionality on refurbished equipment before continuing with the process.
Run equipment through the refurbishment process including burn-in and trip tests.
Maintain accurate records of refurbishment processes, including parts used, repairs completed, and testing outcomes.
Repackage validated equipment.
Maintain an orderly workflow and an organized lab space.
Failure Analysis/Returned Product Screening: 20%
Troubleshoot and diagnose failures in returned power electronic equipment including lithium-ion batteries.
Screening returned equipment on the bench following documented testing and data collection procedures.
Generate lab reports based on findings from analysis.
Clerical:10%
Assist with product inventory management.
Assist with updating or creating improvements in RMA screening procedures.
Assist with updating and developing policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the RMA lab.
Other Duties: 5%
Actively participate with fellow team members in daily maintenance of lab environment and preventive maintenance of lab equipment.
Collaborate with engineers in planning of future test stations and requirements.
Recommend and implement improvements to lab test stations and test setups.
Provide technical assistance and/or mentor less experienced technicians in the RMA lab.
