The City of Norfolk’s Department of Human Services (NDHS) provides a wide range of essential services to its citizens. The Home-Based Childcare Network (HCN) is a unit responsible for monitoring the compliance of an intensive training and licensure process for individuals seeking to provide childcare in their home. We also specialize in initiatives relative to early childhood development and education. The HCN is seeking an Early Intervention & School Readiness Coordinator, who will play a crucial role in supporting children and families in achieving optimal developmental milestones and preparing for a successful transition to school. This position involves coordinating early intervention services, collaborating with various stakeholders, and implementing programs that promote school readiness for children aged 0-5. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of child development, effective communication skills, and a passion for empowering families. Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $54,601.00 - $62,791.15 Essential Functions + Program Coordination: - Develop, implement, and evaluate early intervention and school readiness programs. - Coordinate services and resources for children and families, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness. - Monitor program outcomes and make data-driven recommendations for improvements. + Family Engagement: - Build strong relationships with families, providing support and guidance in navigating early childhood services. - Organize workshops, training sessions, and informational events for parents and caregivers + Collaboration: - Work closely with educators, healthcare providers, and community organizations to align services and resources. - Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure comprehensive support for children. + Assessment & Planning: - Conduct developmental screenings and assessments to identify children needing early intervention services. - Create individualized service plans in collaboration with families and relevant professionals. + Advocacy and Education: - Advocate for policies and practices that support early childhood development and school readiness. - Provide training and professional development for staff on early intervention strategies and best practices. + Resource Management: - Maintain an updated database of resources and services available for families and children. - Manage program budgets and ensure compliance with funding requirements. Education/Experience Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field and minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia). Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.
