We are looking for a dynamic political reporter to join our team. Based in the Canberra Press Gallery, this reporting role covers federal politics for The Courier-Mail, Sunday Mail and Queensland regional mastheads..
To be successful you will break exclusive stories for digital and print and write compelling commentary and analysis on federal issues. You’ll have a passion for the story behind the politics and know how to make sense of government decisions. You will also have a well-established network of political contacts.
You will be someone who has experience in a political reporting role. The person we want must have a burning desire to know what's going on, where and why it's happening, and the ability to cut through to the core of the issue.
You can write clearly and concisely and are constantly monitoring news, blogs and social media.
You will possess the natural knack to see a great line in a story - and know instantly that it will be a success both in print and digitally. With an eye for detail, your work will be accurate and you will write quickly for multiple tight deadlines.
Source and produce exclusive political stories and analysis that can be shared across print, web, social media and video, while adapting to the evolving demands of the digital age.
Deliver relevant content that engages our existing subscribers and attracts new readers
Build a network of contacts
Some weekend work will be required
Who are you?Experience in political reporting
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
Deep knowledge of current political affairs both national and state
Ability to quickly analyse and communicate complex issues to our readers
Proven experience building relationships and working with sources in politics and government
Familiarity with multimedia tools, social media, and digital storytelling.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple stories at once.
