Job Summary

\n\n\n\n\n

Feed Laboratory Technician is responsible for acquiring raw materials, composing of animal specific feed tailored to meet the diverse needs of turkeys, reaching the farms, due to the nature of the business, providing a variety of feed is essential in satisfying animal demands at various stages of their lifecycle. 

\n\n\n\n\n

Key Responsibilities

\n\n\n\n\n\n       Daily testing and record keeping of feed-related ingredients and finished feed products for Butterball feed mills.  \n       Preparation of chemical solutions \n      General laboratory housekeeping \n       Operation of basic laboratory equipment used in the testing procedures for feeds and/or ingredients (balances, scales, ovens, NIR instruments, moisture meters, protein analyzers, fat extractors, water baths, centrifuges, stir plates, hot plates, pH meters, burets, Elisa readers, pipettes, mortar and pestle, micropipettes, pellet durability tumbler, particle size sieves, etc.) \n       Sample preparation, testing of ingredients and feeds, computation of results from testing procedures. \n      Shipment of samples to other laboratories for external testing \n      Comprehension and use of all safety equipment used to properly conduct testing, data entry, summary report generation. \n       Employees must comply with OSHA, and Butterball Rules and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.  Follow all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and safety. (No Birds or Swine at their home on any capacity \n         All other duties assigned by supervisor/management. \n\n

Minimum Qualifications

\n

 

\n\n\n\n\n

      Associate degree in Animal Science field Microbiology, Poultry Science or related degree program/ or work-related experience.

\n\n\n\n\n

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

\n\n\n\n\n

·         Excellent communications skills

\n

·         Basic mathematical skills

\n

·         Computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, word and power point

\n

·         Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

\n\n\n\n\n

 Preferred Qualifications or KSAs

\n\n\n\n\n

       Previous Feed Laboratory testing experience

\n

      Must have a NC Driver License

\n

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, handle containers of feed and ingredients and occasionally lift 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

·         Will work most of the time in enclosed buildings, work area may include concrete floors, which may be wet at times, or expanded metal floors, occasionally exposed to wet and /or humid conditions and varying outside weather conditions
